A day trip will take us to the beautiful city of Meknes which was the capital of Morocco under the reign of Moulay Ismail (1672–1727), before it was relocated to Marrakech. Meknes was named after a Berber tribe “Miknasa” which inhabited the area during the time of the Idrissid dynasty. Then we will visit the ancient roman ruins of Volubilis which is a partly excavated Berber and Roman city in Morocco situated near the city of Meknes, and commonly considered as the ancient capital of the kingdom of Mauretania.
